Gerd Gornes Eltern waren Isidor Gorne und Margarethe Gorne (geb. Schmerl). Er hatte noch einen älteren Bruder, Arnold, und eine jüngere Schwester, Esther.
Bekannt ist, dass er eine Lehre als Elektoinstallateur in der Firma Alfred Muscatblatt absolviert hat (ein entsprechendes Zeugnis ist bei B. Kowalzik, "Jüdisches Erwerbsleben in der Inneren Nordvorstadt ..." auf S. 137 veröffentlicht).
Gerd Gorne gelangte mit Hilfe seines Bruders nach Venezuela, nachdem er zunächst in Großbritannien war.
Auch der Schwester Esther gelang die Emigration nach Großbritannien, später ging sie in die USA. Gerd und Arnold Gorne versuchten ihre Eltern vergeblich nachzuholen, Isidor und Margarethe Gorne wurden am 17.2.1943 zunächst nach Berlin und am 26.2.1943 nach Auschwitz deportiert. Gerd Gorne’s parents were Isidor Gorne and Margarethe Gorne (née Schmerl). He also had an older brother, Arnold, and a younger sister, Esther.
It is known that he completed an apprenticeship as an electrician at the firm of Alfred Muscatblatt (a corresponding certificate is published in B. Kowalzik, “Jüdisches Erwerbsleben in der Inneren Nordvorstadt …” on p. 137).
With his brother’s help, Gerd Gorne made his way to Venezuela after initially spending time in Great Britain.
His sister Esther also managed to emigrate to Great Britain; she later moved to the United States. Gerd and Arnold Gorne tried in vain to bring their parents over; Isidor and Margarethe Gorne were deported on February 17, 1943, first to Berlin and then, on February 26, 1943, to Auschwitz.
