Mein lieber Horstlmann!

Vielleicht hast Du schon irgend was gehört.

Deine Traudl

Viele Grüße an Deine liebe Muttel!

Mein allerliebster Horstl!

My dear Horstl!

It's such a sad occasion that I have to write to you. Please do not write to me at all for the time being, because I do not know when I am going to the shop again. You can certainly see from my writing that I am completely confused. I have to give up my dear good mother at the beginning of next week. Maybe you have already heard something. I am so disturbed, apart from the fact that I have to take on all the household chores. I can see it will not be long before I am all alone. – It is all so sudden, and it is too awful. To make matters worse, I have such a terrible cold! As soon as it is possible, I will write in more detail. You will hear from me again!

Warmest regards!

Yours, Traudl

Many greetings to your dear mother!

My dearest Horstl!

When you get these lines, everything terrible is long over and we cannot be harmed anymore. My mother would have to leave tomorrow for Theresienstadt. Probably we would not see her again. It will not be long, and they will come for Dad and me, too. What else awaits us in life? My parents' lifework is ruined. It just got too much. I know it would not be a life. Perhaps I am young, and life is just beginning for me. You can see in my letters to you how beautiful I had imagined everything to be, but the fulfillment is still so far away, and besides, I would not like in any case that you had to go through all this what for example my father would have to experience with his wife. You have to be free, and if it is only for your profession. I know there are going to be hard times for you. Please don't doubt my love. I could not see my parents so desperate, who were only living for me. My dear, dear Horst! Please do not take it too hard! You will find a dear life companion. You still have time. Please do not be angry with me for breaking my promise, but I am convinced that you would not have acted differently in my situation. Only two days ago, I would have thought anyone who spoke to me about dying was crazy. But it is not hard to think about it. There is only one person to whom I find it so difficult to say goodbye, but you know that and you can imagine. How nice that we were quite happy for 14 days!

Do not be desperate, my dear, the main thing is that you get ahead and find your fortune. In the better afterlife we meet again. You must not lose faith.

Everything is so tragic. Hopefully you will receive every single letter from me. I would have liked to send you more, but our decision came so suddenly, and now it is too late.

Goodbye, my dearest Horstl, keep me in dear memory, and thank you for all the beautiful hours and for all your love! Perhaps the fulfillment of our wishes would have been too much luck.

Until my last breath I am with you in my thoughts and always your Traudl

Mother also thanks for everything!
